Do you ever wonder what happened to that guy from Annihilation 3 (step 1.5)? That one Jetpack Soldier who might've missed the memo or drew the short straw on the landing formation and plummeted to his supposed doom? It turns out the rumors of his death were greatly exaggerated. Ethan's new Operator Records not only gives him an entire backstory and lease on life, but also a name: Kevin.
Yes, you heard that right, Hypergryph has been keeping an eye on the community and committed the canonization of Kevin to memery.
It gets better though - Kevin turns out to be old friends with Ethan, and his jetpack malfunction allowed him to fall into the providence of the garbage heap and avoid the battle. The rest of the Operator Record translation can be read here, in his Operator Records.
Now that Kevin is confirmed, the question on everyone's mind is how he'll be introduced in EN. In Chinese, his name is "凯文" (kai wen), the phonetic equivalent of Kevin. Since it doesn't have any particular meaning as a phonetic Chinese name, "Kevin" should be an open and shut case, or so it seems. However, many players proposed other possible official translations including
- "Cabin",
- Simply leaving it untranslated for the authentic CN experience.
- "Ah Hai", spoiling the Operator Record (oops),
- Taking a tip from Thorns and calling him "Supreme (Former) Reunion Soldier".
