Quick Evaluation

+ Trait: Attack all enemies in range, less likely to be targeted, 50% Arts and Physical Dodge
+ Talent: Attacks have a 25% chance to Freeze the enemy (cannot move but can still attack)
+ Great crowd control with a high chance to Freeze enemies during S2 activation
+ Great for CC event as he can stall enemies for long periods of time
= Purchasable with Shop Vouchers at a reasonable price in terms of Sanity
- His Bind chance is very unreliable and RNG dependent outside of high Skill Level S2 activation.

Operator Overview

ā€œYou were the only one in the office, but the snacks disappeared as soon as you turned your head? Umm, tell you what. I understand. I'll make sure to catch the culprit, mhm.ā€

Ethan talks a big game, having previously been a member of several different Infected resistance groups. However, heā€™s extremely averse to combat: his ā€œparticipationā€ was mostly limited to spraying graffiti on walls, then sneaking away using his excellent camouflage abilities. However, the chameleon Savra has changed his mind now that heā€™s part of Rhodes Island. Armed with a military-grade yo-yo (yes, really), this 4* Controller Specialist is bringing his DPS and Crowd-Control abilities to fight for a real cause at last.

Controller Specialists excel at AoE crowd control, enabled by their very interesting Traits: they hit all enemies within their attack range, have innate Physical and Arts Dodge, and are less likely to be targeted by enemies. (Note that, despite his chameleon appearance, Ethan is not actually invisible to enemiesā€”just less likely to be targeted.) Ethanā€™s control comes from his Talent, Entwined: it gives a chance to Freeze enemies he hits, stopping them from moving for a few seconds (though they can still attack). His Skill 1, Fancy Maneuvers, is a passive that enhances his DPS by causing his attacks to deal extra Arts damage over time. On the other hand, Suspended Cross--his Skill 2--needs to be manually activated, but has a stronger effect. It increases Ethanā€™s ATK and multiplies the activation chance of his Talent, enhancing his performance as a Controller Specialist.

Yo-yos are tricky tools to use, and using Ethan well is no cakewalk either. Probably his biggest drawback is lacking actual Invisibility. Being able to Dodge and having reduced enemy aggro is good, and since he has Block-0, heā€™s not in danger from melee opponents. However, he can be vulnerable to ranged enemies that put him in their crosshairs if he isnā€™t supported. Having Block-0 also means he doesnā€™t have the option to block enemies if you need him to; he can only impede enemies if Entwined activates, and because his attack speed is very low, he doesnā€™t have many chances to activate it on a given target, so it cannot be depended upon. It takes foresight and careful consideration to find Ethan a place where he can leverage his unique strengths without being put in too much danger. However, when Ethan finds a safe place to perform, his flying yo-yo should impress with both its flashiness and its results.

Newbie Tier List Explanation

Good crowd control option, and cheaper to develop than Manticore. Though he can't match her DPS, his crowd control is on par (though slightly different). He costs red certs to buy, which new players might be better off using to purchase Chip Catalysts for E2 promotions

Ethan was already a very strong unit, especially for a 4ā˜…. Even before his Module, he was debatably the best Ambusher for stalling. However, Ethan got one of the best Module upgrades in the game across all rarities and he is now undeniably the best Ambusher. His Module level 2 makes his bind time match his attack interval, meaning he can permanently bind enemies in his range. Mastery is especially important for that purpose due to the improved activation chance at M3. With his Module level 3 and S2M3, his activation chance becomes a very comfortable 84%. That high chance to permanently stall enemies in his range is invaluable, even more so for the relatively low costs of 4ā˜… Masteries and Modules.

Profile

Operator Ethan's place of birth remains unknown. He hopped around between several different underground Infected groups before finally separating himself from the Reunion Movement. A thorough investigation has determined Ethan's goals are not a threat and he is indeed worth hiring. Tactical analysis shows that he is particularly skilled in battlefield infiltration and solo operations.
He currently serves Rhodes Island in a special ops team, providing specialist support.

We found Operator Ethan during lunchtime, or rather we found a plate floating in midair, while people all around looked on astonished, surprised, or dumbfounded, we managed to locate this unique operator. Ethan eagerly answered our interview questions, reporting that most of the infected refugees he encountered in the underground struggled with extreme poverty. This may explain his attachment to flavorful cuisine...
Ethan's favorite dish is the Triple Shank Nudescale Lizard, grilled in mushrooms and spices, and paired with a Lupo favorite Concord Wine... When presented with such a spread, he was more than happy to share everything he ever knew.
Of course, when prompted to discuss his former associates, he dodged the issue witha series of jokes. To use his own words, 'even the little guy has a few tough spots.'
In any case, Ethan is a gregarious person with a lot of feelings. Whether as a friend or a partner, one needs only overlook a few inadvertent mistakes to see he is a suitable candidate. Just as soon as the investigators are finished confirming his story.

Operator Ethan's Originium Arts are worth a special note. Some Savras have a natural ability to change color and blend in with their surroundings, and Ethan is particularly skilled in this respect. He is able to use Originium Arts to turn his skin the exact color of any object he touches.
When Caster Operators have asked to study his Originium Arts in detail, Ethan has consistently made a rather direct reply:
'NO! You want to write down what I can do? Then everybody will know! What am I supposed to do when the enemy figures it out?!'
However, when a certain female Savra operator made the request, Ethan thought for a moment before putting the full power of his Originium Arts on display for us.
We need not go into the details.
In reality, not much thought needs to be put into Operator Ethan: the activation conditions for the full power of his Arts are quite demanding, and very difficult to study.
At present, the Casters theorize that Ethan's Originium Arts have a passive ability to perceive the differences between metals, minerals, plant and other materials, and then quickly adapt his body pigmentation to the color of the target environment.
Naturally, rapid changes of color within a short period of time left a sort of chromatic aberration against the background environment, causing a blurring effect. After any such tests, Ethan has consistently collapsed into a deep sleep.

While Ethan certainly isn't old, and is even less qualified to be any sort of teacher, he has still taken it upon himself to offer advice and aid to younger operators since coming to Rhodes Island.
At the same time, he has made a concerted effort to fully cooperate with any orders given to him on the battlefield, resulting in some moderately improved assessment scores. Ethan is not a terribly brave man, and he has shown some signs of weakness in battle more than once. Even when he wins, he still cuts a comical and somewhat sad, tramplike figure. In short, Ethan is not the kind of man who loves war.
In any case, no matter how easy going Ethan may seem, he will always at that critical moment make the choice that is right for him. What drives those choices is not only the responsibility put on him by our assessment system, but also his unenviable history with the Infected.

Archive File 4

Increase Trust to 200.
The Infected hiding in the shadowy corners of the cities all suffer the same fate: crushed in squalid conditions, forced from their homes, starving, waiting for the moment when they finally drop dead in a pile of other Infected.
In situations like these, who could expect the young Infected to stay silent? They use secret tunnels to move throughout the city, hiding just out of sight of the guards, using spraypaint to vent their dissatisfaction in the narrow alleyways. That is, until they are discovered, and they make a break for it, barely escaping, dripping with sweat, struggling to breathe.
Ethan was one of them. He couldn't fight, and he couldn't talk trash. His spraypaint was his only voice, its vibrant colors and striking characters screaming out the plight of the Infected for all to see and hear. And with his nigh-invisibility, getting away from those who would stop him was trivial.
The city's dark nights had become chaotic and unpredictable.
But Ethan didn't care. All he had to do was run away. He could even help the other Savras get away. No one was as good at escaping as them. They left no trace of their presence.
'All you have to do is run.' That was Ethan's motto.
But when one starts to run, getting caught becomes inevitable.

Appointed as Assistant Yo, Doctor! Is it time for my shift? Hmm? I suddenly popped up out of nowhere? Nope, just got here.
Talk 1 C'mon, man, I worked with you on my background check. And I told you a million times: My last job was with Reunion, sure. But I wasn't mixed up in any of the criminal stuff. No guilt here!
Talk 2 If there's one thing I really hated about Reunion, it was the food! If you can even call it foodā€¦ My team mostly got by on rock-hard black bread. I had to throw it in a pot and simmer it into stew every time. Those people were just brutal on their stomachs.
Talk 3 You must've run into Reunion's 'Wraith' guys a whole bunch of times, right? I was one of those. They sent me to scout stuff, never did any fighting. I used to place bets on who would or wouldn't get seen as a way to deal with the boredom. Thinking back, I guess that was kind of rough on the other guys.
Talk after Promotion 1 What did I do before I joined Reunion? I was playing hide n' seek with the Infected hunters, duh. With my sneaky little power here, they went home empty-handed every time, hahaā€¦ But all I could do was hide. And that wasn't gonna help change things for the Infected.
Talk after Promotion 2 I joined up with the underground because I wanted to help other Infected. But over time, I got jaded, then I stopped being a good guy... Well, at least my hands are 'clean' again. What do I mean by that? Hehe, that's enough questions, friend. Never you mind.
Talk after Trust Increase 1 Look, camouflage Arts are really complicated! First, you gotta actually know the compisition and texture of your surroundings. Then, you memorize the shape of every crack in the wall, and all the colors of all the soil and every tree. If you don't have those down, even your nerves will get you popping out, and then it's only a matter of time until you're made.
Talk after Trust Increase 2 You were the only one in the office, and your snacks disappeared as soon as you turned your head? Wow, that's weird. Why don't you leave it to me? I'll solve this mystery and bring the thief right to you. Yep.
Talk after Trust Increase 3 So this is a map of the operating area? Let's seeā€¦ Wow, you're really something. Your strategies are so clever, no wonder Reunion always got their asses handed to them. Okay, I'm moving out!
Idle Hm? The door isn't locked?
Onboard Where am I? Right in front of you! You can call me Ethan. How did I get in here? Haha! Can't answer that one yet.
Watching Battle Record Where was I? C'mon! Right over there! Look at the top left of screen. Top left corner!
Promotion 1 Haha, I told you before right? You won't regret putting work into my hands.
Promotion 2 Yo, Doctor. Make sure you remember the little guys like me. I could die in some battle somewhere and nobody would even know I was gone. So please, remember where I am!
Added to Squad The wall moved, right before your eyes? Naw, you're exaggerating, definitely.
Appointed as Squad Leader Eyyy! I'm the captain now, so you'd all better listen up!
Depart Don't panic if you suddenly notice a missing squadmate.
Begin Operation Time to fight? I gotta hide first!
Selecting Operator 1 Hey, over here!
Selecting Operator 2 What's the plan?
Deployment 1 Let's dance.
Deployment 2 Good spot here.
In Battle 1 Get 'em! Get 'em good!
In Battle 2 Violence can't solve all your problems, but it can solve you!
In Battle 3 Haha, you can't see me!
In Battle 4 Feel like you're gonna faint?
4-star Result Are we done fighting? Ahh, I'm beat!
3-star Result I worked pretty hard. You saw me, right? Right?
Sub 3-star Result So what if they got away. Just let 'em go.
Operation Failure You should go first, at least I can grab their legs.
Assigned to Facility Nice room you got here. Let's see what sticks out the most.
Tap Oh, you found me.
Trust Tap Hey, wanna go for a stroll?
Title Arknights.
Greeting Hey, Doctor, somebody looks happy. Did something good happen?

Description:
Ethan finds avoidance of direct conflict a discipline worthy of deeper study. Why rush the enemy head-on when you have the element of surprise?
Choose a good position, find the right time, then pop up behind the enemy with a 'surprise, assholes!' Then watch them stumble all over each other in a panic. It's actually lots of fun.
