一则有关幽灵的恐怖传说在罗德岛流传开来。据传,每隔几个月,罗德岛上便会有幽灵出没,在午夜惨白的夜灯下泛着诡异的流光,一靠近便消失不见。幽灵停留过的地方通常会留下一种特殊的“幽灵印记”,表现为线条简单却让人难以理解的图案,色彩多变,能散发微弱的荧光。印记一般在被目击后的一小时内就会消失。
有些干员坚信“幽灵印记”源自一种尚未被发现的灵异文化,并借来桃金娘的旗子披在身上,试图装作幽灵以接近幽灵。另有干员坚信它是试图渗透罗德岛的敌对势力留下的接头记号,于是每天给凯尔希医生写至少三封邮件强调险情。还有干员坚信它是未知文明的艺术表达形式,每天蹲点临摹“幽灵印记”,并建立了致力于赏析其艺术价值的社团。

来到罗德岛不久后,海霓便向外勤部投递了参加外勤任务的申请。按照惯例,像她这样毫无经验、缺乏训练,且个人专长与任务内容无关的人员,是不应该被批准参加外勤任务的。但,不知道她使了什么花招,最后还是获准随队前往雷姆必拓荒野。
虽然没有被指派具体的任务,但海霓到场后还是自顾自地忙了起来。十分钟后,随行的天灾信使还在校准仪器的时候,她已经开始报告远处有漩涡状的异常气流活动了。经天灾信使确认,那确实是一团正在成形的天灾云。
事后,被问起为何能在没有相关知识的情况下如此迅速且准确地预知天灾时,海霓笑着指了指天空:“凭直觉吧。你看,天上泛着鳞波的云,是不是其实很像海面上的浪?”

【发展规划所评估资料节选】
卢契拉提交的工作成果——无论数据、报告还是方案——内容极为繁杂,其中混杂着大量看似严肃,却高度缺乏可行性的奇想。在此仅举几例:研究穹顶上的须腕状生物监测单元充当痒痒挠的可能性;研究穹顶显色剂(又称“墨水”)在变色时的味道变化及原理;研究穹顶外层沉积的海洋生物排泄物的形状以及其中的规律。
为了不影响对接效率,我们与卢契拉进行了交流,她同意对自己提交的工作成果进行内容上的精简。此后,卢契拉开始定期将自己在工作生活中萌发的奇想整理成课题,发送给科学院与技术院各个机构的负责人。这些奇想依然高度缺乏可行性,但也有少数机构的负责人表示,自己因此受到启发,找到了全新的研究方向。

好吧,卢契拉的表现并不像是一个精神被击溃的人,她的思维惊人地活跃——哪怕在一起进餐的时候,她也会突然开始饶有兴致地查找能够随时进行固液态切换的材料,拉着我讨论变形餐具的可能性;或者研究食材被咀嚼时的声音区别,试图将听觉也纳入进食体验的范畴......真是个怪人。

我开始理解卢契拉为什么没有崩溃了。大部分时候,她那些没完没了的怪点子真的很没用,可越是没用,她越是认真。她似乎觉得这些毫无用处的奇思妙想与对抗海嗣的实用手段同样值得关注。或许是这样的理念使她得以时刻保持蓬勃的创造力,而没有在一条狭窄的道路上逐渐麻木吧。
我很想把她的行为视作一种徒劳的挣扎,可说实话,假如所有阿戈尔人都能像她一样,是不是阿戈尔就不会像现在这么脆弱,我们也就不必......呵,真是可惜。
