RIIC Base Skills
Quick Evaluation
+ Talent: After not attacking for 4 seconds, the attack will deal additional damage and stun the target.
+ S1: Heals very quickly and can be used to effectively activate his Talent after its short duration. Fast recharge after activation for repeated use. The extra block can be useful when fighting multiple enemies that don't hit too hard.
+ S2: A moderate ATK buff with secondary side buffs. The secondary buff can be useful in different situations and be switched by deactivating and reactivating the skill.
- S1: The threshold to activate the heal is very low and he can be easily killed before it activates.
- S2: The secondary buffs are not particularly powerful for the role of a DPS unit.
Operator Overview
“Promotion?! Ohohoh, thank you for your appreciation, Doctor. From today on, little old me will go through fire and water without hesitation… um, how much can the salary increase?”
Mr. Nothing made the mistake of getting on Closure’s bad side when he joined Rhodes Island by cutting into her profits with his multiple side businesses (including but not limited to: acupressure, Feng shui, massage, martial arts lessons, and weight loss advice). Closure went to teach him a lesson, and after she yelled at him for three hours… she took him on as her assistant and the two started making money together hand over fist. Common wisdom at Rhodes Island says that other than actual work, Mr. Nothing can do anything. He can certainly fight, taking to the field as a 5* DP-Drain Specialist with the potential to do a little of everything: Stunning, blocking, self-buffing, ASPD debuffing, and even self-healing.
As a DP-Drain Specialist, Mr. Nothing has a very quick redeployment time and a low DP cost, but passively consumes 3 DP every 3 seconds (which exactly consumes the player’s base DP regeneration, so be careful about that). While he’s consuming DP, he’s also charging his Unexpected Strike Talent—after several seconds of not attacking, Mr. Nothing’s next attack will deal increased damage and Stun his target. This combines nicely with his S1, Cautious Retreat. When Mr. Nothing is equipped with Cautious Retreat, his Block passively increases by +1 and he automatically stops attacking or blocking when he gets low on HP. During the duration of Cautious Retreat, Mr. Nothing will regenerate a huge amount of HP and have just enough time to charge Unexpected Strike, coming back into the fight with guns (okay, paper fans) a-blazing.
Mr. Nothing’s S2, Wax and Wane, is a bit more complex. When activated, it grants Mr. Nothing an ATK buff and one of three potential effects. You can tell which effect is granted based on the color of the aura Mr. Nothing gains:
- Blue Aura: Mr. Nothing’s attacks will reduce the ASPD of his target
- Fuchsia Aura: Mr. Nothing’s ASPD increases
- Orange Aura: Mr. Nothing gains Physical Dodge and +1 Block count
Wax and Wane charges extremely quickly and can be turned on and off at will, so the player can toggle it on and off until the desired buff is activated. With a little luck, Mr. Nothing can fill different roles at different parts of a battle using this Skill: Blue can help an ally survive a heavy-hitting foe, Fuchsia is a large DPS increase, and Orange is an ideal defensive tool.
Mr. Nothing is certainly much trickier to use than his 4* equivalent, Jaye, and the difficulty is not entirely to his advantage. In addition to the usual disadvantages of a DP-Drain Specialist, Mr. Nothing’s Skills can actively work against you: Cautious Retreat can backfire if you’re not keeping track of Mr. Nothing’s HP, and a streak of bad luck can leave you cycling through Wax and Wane auras for much longer than you’d like. Heck, just remembering which aura is which can be a struggle! You can definitely say that Mr. Nothing makes battles more interesting, though. Gamble on another Wax and Wane roll, or adapt to the result you just pulled… after all, isn’t spinning the wheel of fortune why we’re playing a gacha in the first place?
Newbie Tier List Explanation
Not an Operator that a new player will find easy to use nor find particularly impactful.
Skill Discussion
S2M3 | C+ | B- | B |
Mr. Nothing has a bit of a bad reputation. I’m not sure where that came from, exactly. He has really solid DPS, a great talent, and a super interesting kit. However, he's still tough to suggest Mastery investment for. His main meta value is in his talent, which can be used to great effect in IS#3 or various Advanced stall strategies, but doesn't gain anything meaningful from Masteries. Furthermore, there just isn't a lot of reason to use him over Jaye who is ridiculous and half the cost. As a value prospect, you almost certainly have better places to put your resources.
All that said, if you do want to Master a skill, S2 is the better option. S1 is a very interesting skill that's fun to play around with, but ultimately the Mastery gains just aren't worth it in all but the most niche situations. S2 meanwhile gets a good DPS gain and solid upgrades to all of his various effects.

Increase Trust to 50.Which led to Mr. Nothing being lectured by Miss Closure for over three hours... and becoming one of her able assistants in business aboard the landship.
'It's weird. How's this guy so clued in about stuff? What kind of life did he even lead in Kou-wu City?'
Archive File 2
Increase Trust to 100.Some cities in Yan have traditions of martial arts establishments, ever since ancient times. However, following the expansion in scope of nomadic cities, and the formation of communication links between city-states and even whole countries, the feel of these 'martial arts of the people' underwent much change. A great deal of youths nowadays practice them, many to keep themselves fit, with self-defense as an aim. Martial arts tournaments held by establishments all over, with grand stages, come to make business activities a primary concern. Still, a tiny proportion hold to the attitude that 'martial arts should halt a war,' and silently pass on those genuine teachings. Certainly, Mr. Nothing's school was one of those.
'My only issue was learning it wouldn't earn me much. Times of peace, eh.' —Mr. Nothing

Increase Trust to 150.Going by a simple investigation, and inquiries with Mr. Nothing himself, the dispute at Lien's can be seen as a deliberate conspiracy—they set things up for an unidentifiable 'boxer' to die in a contest at Mr. Nothing's hands. This gave all the local powers an excuse to pressure the Liens. Come the end, his master bled dry, and he was forced to go incognito, fleeing far from his homeland.
According to Mr. Nothing, his master was old. Not only that, but her disciples numbered few, with no real money or power to their names, nor any show they could make of ability. The Liens was situated in Kou-wu City, yet not lively enough to match even next door's gymnasium. Why all sorts from all corners would come to target this tiny little school, and why people are still out for Mr. Nothing's life while he poses no threat so far away from home, those are the mystifying points.
Questioned directly, Mr. Nothing gave a bitter chuckle, and then a rather evasively phrased reply: such is martial arts.
Afterwards, Mr. Nothing began expounding knowhow on growing rice in the paddies, diverting from the topic.

Increase Trust to 200.Reports say it was while personally tasked by Miss Nian that Miss Lava came across Mr. Nothing. Concerning archives of that mission, we will not give details. However, we trust Miss Lava and Miss Kroos, and so we will... continue to survey Mr. Nothing's conduct, and supplement records accordingly.
[Report Addendum]
Report addendum, uh, I just saw Mr. Nothing use his fan somehow knock down that drunk Sarkaz. What kind of Arts is that?
[Report Addendum 2]
Report addendum, I asked Mr. Nothing myself if he was hiding some talent, and he volunteered to be the bait, and then the bandits nabbed him into their stronghold, and then get this, he came running out all by himself! And he only had light injuries!
[Report Addendum 3]
Report addendum... the bounty hunters are already rounded up. When we got here, it was just a mess of guys all knocked out on the floor... d-did Mr. Nothing do this all by himself? They were armed, right? And they had Casters?
[Report Addendum 4]
Mr. Nothing said he just got caught, then luckily he noticed the bandits' boss had an opening, then luckily his ropes came undone, and then luckily he knocked 'em all out... also, he said because no layman ever sees fans and umbrellas as weapons, that was the only reason he had any chance, and, uh, 'it's scarcely imagined that even chopsticks can kill.' Jeez. I'm scared of him.
[Report Addendum 5]
I was starting to believe Mr. Nothing was the real deal, but then I went to go consult him today, and he just tossed me this crumpled-up exercise dieting manual whatever, and he even asked me if I wanted to become a member. I didn't wanna lose weight!
Promotion Record
Upgrade to Elite LV2.I know what he went through was kind of rough, but it's not exactly a rare case, either. The path he chose was the path of beast-eat-beast, a cheat for a cheat. Right now, though, I have no clue if any of his quote-unquote 'fellow' disciples could have anything wicked against him.
But he doesn't bow to people like that. Keeps his head held pretty high, which, yeah, good on him. He might've broken the rules, but 'broken' is a... well, those rules didn't look that good to me anyway.
You think he doesn't seem like the guy I'm talking about? Huh. Figure it out yourself, then.

Voice Lines
Appointed as Assistant | Hm. The office of the vaunted Doctor, then? Marvelous, truly. Allow me a brief moment to consult my feng shui crash-course guidebook... |
---|---|
Talk 1 | I'm no mere braggart! Beyond a little kickboxing in a scuffle, I can rustle up meals, practice acupuncture, divine with feng shui, work masonry, tend to rice and angle fish alike—I'm a maestro of all kinds! Doctor, you need only give the order, and I'll see everything through! |
Talk 2 | D-Doctor, I was a little idle, see, and went to make myself useful at HR, and by carelessness glimpsed at a few operator files, and... er, well, could FEater be the very star of 'Fiends of the Gods Reincarnated Immortal' herself? Truly? Could I go get an autograph? |
Talk 3 | Who was my master? Hmm, a question as complex as a showdown of Yan cuisines. Normally I'd refrain from answering that, as slipping up would get me beaten sideways. That said... you need only know, Doctor, I'm the last descendant of the Lien line. Ah, but my family name's not Lien. I'm a Ch'u. |
Talk after Promotion 1 | M-Miss Dusk really did... come to Rhodes Island with us, then? My, um... what was it now? My recollection's quite fuzzy now, yet I have the vague impression that within her painted dreams, I had a peek into my own miserable future. Ah, let's never we mind. Dear, oh, dear. You be quite careful too, Doctor. |
Talk after Promotion 2 | Now, now, Doctor, don't worry about me. I and the Infected do get along well. Back at my old place, a Catastrophe once struck not too far away. It frightened all of us, seeing the world go pitch black. My master remarked then that Catastrophes were Heaven's false charge against the human realm. Ah, truly a bitter thing. |
Talk after Trust Increase 1 | Benefactor Lava? Yes, I call her my benefactor. She once saved me, and as time went on, it became second nature. Throughout my life I've been saved thrice, and every time, I engrave it upon my soul. The gloompincer incident, you mean? No, not that. She showed to me a path, and that was true grace beyond all. |
Talk after Trust Increase 2 | Say, Doctor, are people able to brush the past away as they live? Certainly not, hm? If the bonds you once left behind still hold fast, what ought you do? You've no idea either? Well, then. It seems we're companions in our misery. Here, what say we crack some sunflower seeds? |
Talk after Trust Increase 3 | Countless, they were, the ancient parasol trees about Kou-wu City. Oh, just reminiscing all of a sudden. I remember the leaves scattered across the ground come fall, when my parents would visit me from the country. Only then would my strict master speak nothing but good, and her other disciples, my brothers and sisters, wouldn't bully me. No, well, just reminiscing. |
Idle | Hmm. I've been pondering a fan for you too, but what ought we write on it? |
Onboard | My codename? 'Mr. Nothing.' The latter man of Tzu-hsu and Wu-yu; Nonexistent and Nothing indeed. And you, fine soul, are the Doctor? That is to say, my new boss? Well, then, would you like me to massage your back? Loosen up your legs? |
Watching Battle Record | Ho, what a hundredfold bouquet of martial prowess. You've got my eyes wide open now! |
Promotion 1 | A promotion and a raise?! Ohh, ohh, I thank you, Doctor, in all respects possible! Be it for you, I would brave the greatest fires and waters, I would not hesitate to... well, that said, how much might my wages be growing by? |
Promotion 2 | Sooner or later, I plan to return to Kou-wu City and set every debt in my books straight. My only worry is I may invite trouble and sweep others up in its path. You know this, dear Doctor, and yet you still wish to bestow such partiality on me...? Your kindness toward me is a grace, and I will never, in eternity, forget it. |
Added to Squad | Very well! Doctor, I'll see to it that you have nothing at all to worry about. |
Appointed as Squad Leader | Me, the captain? Hold one moment, just let me find my secret tomes for the art of war, now... |
Depart | As they say, all have their own methods, whether arms against a force or earth to a waterspout. There'll be a way! |
Begin Operation | I'm witnessing fiends, one and all! Quite frightening! |
Selecting Operator 1 | Might you need me? |
Selecting Operator 2 | Here! Right here! |
Deployment 1 | Very well! Leave this to me. |
Deployment 2 | The Doctor, you are! What a sagacious decision! |
In Battle 1 | Compose yourself. Collect yourself! |
In Battle 2 | A perfect technique makes freedom to act! |
In Battle 3 | The moon waxes and wanes. The fan opens and shuts! |
In Battle 4 | Let's have you make a move first, now. |
4-star Result | More hands bring more fuel for the fire. When we concert our efforts together, yes, we truly can burn the sky a red to rival sunsets. Not bad, not bad. |
3-star Result | As they say, those of just ways have much support, and those of lost ways find little. Seen as such, our victory is assured. |
Sub 3-star Result | Pursue not the cornered. Suppose anything troublesome should happen, we'll just bear it together. |
Operation Failure | Go on ahead, everyone. No worries. My runaway act is first in class. I'll be just fine. |
Assigned to Facility | Oh-hoh, Rhodes Island truly is a wondrous land. I feel quite dizzy just looking. |
Tap | Hoh? What's this for exactly, Doctor? |
Trust Tap | Doctor, what say I teach you a thing or two about some moves? |
Title | Arknights. |
Greeting | Well, if it isn't the Doctor! What a happy coincidence! |
