Defeat a total of 50 enemies with Whislash (Whislash cannot be a Support Unit) |
Clear Main Theme S3-6 with a 3-star rating; a non-Support Whislash must be deployed during the operation and only Defender operators are allowed for the remaining units |
RIIC Base Skills
Quick Evaluation
+ Talent: buffs the ASPD and DEF of Operators with Block Count of 3 or more
+ A unique Support Guard that specializes in buffing Defenders and AOE guards
+ Good with Nian who can increase Operator Block Count.
+ S2: Able to temporarily act like a ranged AOE Guard and increases Talent effect
+ Can be placed safely behind multiple melee operators and still reach enemies
+ S1: Boosts her talent and allows it to affect Operators with less than 3 Block Count at reduced effect.
- Very weak base ATK for a Guard
- Weak ATK modifiers on skills mean she will have trouble killing enemies with medium or higher DEF
- Because of the Talent limitations, she can have trouble pulling her weight outside of teams heavy in AOE Guards and damage-oriented Defenders
Operator Overview
Whislash is the aunt (yes, you read that correctly) of Operators Nearl and Blemishine, and she is a former Jousting Knight of Kazimierz who has since become a professional trainer. Her training style is very different from Rhodes Island’s main trainer, Dobermann, which caused some spats between the two at first. However, once they realized how much they had in common, they were able to become very good friends. They even share an archetype: Whislash is a 5* Support Guard, and her areas of expertise are buffing high-Block allies and dealing multi-target damage from a distance.
For Whislash, the “Support” in “Support Guard” comes from her Talent, Rebuke, which increases the ASPD and DEF of all melee Operators with Block-3 or higher. This primarily affects Defenders and AoE Guards, but some buffs (i.e., Nian’s S3) can increase Block count, thereby helping other archetypes to receive Whislash’s support as well. Whislash’s S1, Motivational Skills, makes the power of Rebuke more widely available: it increases the strength of the buffs and grants half the effect to melee Operators with less than Block-3.
In contrast, her S2—Whip Sword—is more about improving Whislash’s own performance. Whip Sword also empowers Rebuke, but more importantly, it gives Whislash a host of buffs: her ATK increases, her attack range lengthens, she is able to hit a number of enemies equal to her Block count (a la AoE Guards), and her own Block count increases by +1(allowing her to also gain her own support buff). It’s a pretty sweet deal!
Support Guards in Arknights tend to have multiple weaknesses, and Whislash is no exception. Rebuke’s buffs are fairly minor, and pairing ASPD with DEF is an odd combination that not a lot of Operators are well-positioned to fully utilize—particularly since Whislash only buffs Block-3 Operators, which is a pretty limited group (without Block count buffs, anyway). Whislash also suffers from low uptime on her Skills, especially Whip Sword, which she desperately needs in order to keep her own DPS competitive. Also, don’t forget that despite her extended attack range, Whislash CANNOT attack aerial enemies, limiting the application of her DPS.
It can be hard to find a place where Whislash is preferable to fielding an AoE Guard, but thanks to her extended attack range, it’s not impossible. Whislash can stand behind an ally and buff them while still attacking, or she can stand in one lane and activate Whip Sword to reach across to another lane and attack in two places at once. Whislash may have retired from the Kazimierz Knights, but that doesn’t mean she’s done fighting—not by a long shot.
Newbie Tier List Explanation
Can function ok as a DPS dealer, and the extended range flexibility can be nice, but will almost always underperform pure DPS Operators, and her buffs are too limited and weak to make up the difference most of the time.
Skill Discussion
S2M3 | None | |||
S1M3 | None |
Note: This unit does not have Mastery grades. This means the unit is generally not one worth spending the resources of Mastery on. However this write-up should help with skill selection, should you want to use the unit regardless.
Whislash is an off-meta unit. Instructors in general just aren't very strong, with middling combat abilities and clunky buffs. However, Whislash is fairly popular, so if you wanted to invest in her anyway, both skills are viable Mastery considerations. Lean towards S2 first which makes her a better combatant. S1 is the better buff skill, so it also has some use, but the Mastery gains on it are fairly poor.
Module Analysis
Operator Impact: Medium
Meta Use: Low
Explanation: Although low DPS is one of their problems, unlike Pallas, these two don't have the kits to utilize this buff to much effect because of their relatively low base ATK and Skill ATK modifiers. If you use them, the Module will improve them, but it won't drastically change their overall performance, which will remain poor.

Increase Trust to 50.Possesses bountiful Kazimierz assets from her winnings in the competition knight circuit, but seems not to take much interest in her own wealth.
She's got no ill will at all, but when chatting with her, you may invariably feel she projects a sort of arrogance. As long as you push past that first impression of yours, getting along with her is easy as could be.

Increase Trust to 100.Dobermann, of military birth, believes that operators should be required to attain what she sees as average proficiency for a combatant, afterwards earning the right to choose how they develop themselves. Whislash of competition knight lineage, however, doesn't care at all whether operators meet a uniform average, instead aspiring to bring each operator's own characteristics to their maximum potential.
Neither's way of thinking is wrong, but even so, Dobermann and Whislash are both particularly stubborn. They were at an impasse for a while, before finally taking a meeting and reaching a compromise.
Though perhaps they came to understand each other while butting heads. Ever since then, their relationship's gotten pretty good. You might hear them talking tactics from time to time now, or even just eating meals together.

Increase Trust to 150.But this was policy for the Nearl family at its shining peak. Following Nearl's exile, it might've been simple enough, with all that she possessed, to seize the title of Nearl if she so wished.
Mind you, Whislash did not.
One part of it was her sisterly relationship with Maria. The other, as she saw it, was that the Nearl name held hallowed significance.
In a certain sense, her opinion overlaps with a true direct relative of Nearl's and Blemishine's, their uncle, Młynar—'This is not a name I'd tarnish with such underhandedness.'
Though, sure enough, they define 'tarnishing' in different ways.
Unlike Młynar, Zofia does not reject the idea of the competition knight itself. Put another way, she accepts at least its existence—but does not err in her forthright and sporting approach to dueling, which she took to the competition as humble representative of the Nearl family. Unwilling to bow to any sponsors or firms, she went from start to finish lacking any favorable provisions or equipment, until the Final 16 brought her journey to an end. Even now, despite that gulf in equipment taking her left hand out of action indefinitely, she has no regrets. None—come the Major, she wants to make sure Blemishine continues to fight as she once did.
It's plain how in Whislash's heart of hearts, her honor as a member of the Nearl family is unbreakable, and anyone could see how she looks after Nearl and Blemishine. When joining, she even assured us that if Rhodes Island wasn't fit for purpose, she'd prefer to take Nearl and Blemishine with her to raise them herself. We've had some personnel envy the sisters in a way, having an elder who cares for them like that.

Increase Trust to 200.Safeguarding the Nearl family name, looking after Nearl and Blemishine. These were what she wanted to do, but somehow not all she wanted to do.
Ever since Nearl was cast out, she'd found a new purpose for herself. Maria had jumped headlong into her beloved engineering. The name of Nearl was all but safe. Once everything she'd worried about no longer needed her, the realization struck her—she had no idea what should come next.
Blessedly, the operators of Rhodes Island not only reminded her of life's variety, but that the vast majority of it was open to try herself. After a short period of haziness, Whislash decided to continue as an Instructor on the one hand, while trying all sorts of new things she'd never imagined on the other. She could seek out her new purpose in life. After all, she's young, life's long, and it's not like there's a rush.
Voice Lines
Appointed as Assistant | You hear about burdenbeasts who don't even drag themselves to work until they're whipped. You're not like that, Doctor. You're smarter than a beast, aren't you? |
---|---|
Talk 1 | Doctor. Just to put any scary little misunderstandings to rest, let me say this now. Maria might call me her aunt, but that's only because I'm higher in the family. I'm not much older than her. I'm still young. I'm still not married. Clear? |
Talk 2 | A spat between me and Dobermann? Oh, don't worry, she's a top-of-the-top instructor, I know that. We've just had a bit of a... bit of a difference on how we like to train our people, that's all. |
Talk 3 | There's plenty at Rhodes Island packing personality AND strength, hm? You could pick your fancy, turn them into competition knights and grab everyone in there by the eyes... Mm, well, or maybe let's not stir that pot. |
Talk after Promotion 1 | Doctor, can I borrow you? I just want you to help me carry some things. If you're asking, well... er, just... all sorts of random things I buy when the mood strikes me. |
Talk after Promotion 2 | Oh, my injury...? I'm not setting foot on that stage ever again, and I've long since learned to get along with my right, so let's not worry yourself, okay. Or maybe you're just being polite, Doctor? Tiptoeing around saying I can't fight at operator standards? |
Talk after Trust Increase 1 | Honestly, Maria. She runs away to the Engineering Department any time she's free. You get used to it fast. *Sigh* I wonder where her education gave her those ideas... Well! Compared to forcing herself to arm up and do what she doesn't want to, I think things are fine this way. |
Talk after Trust Increase 2 | Hm? Hello, Doctor. No, I've just been feeling a little empty. Margaret never wants fussing over, Maria's found what she's wanted to do here, and what about me...? Oh, god, what am I doing talking to you about this? Don't you worry about me, let me make that clear. |
Talk after Trust Increase 3 | Doctor, we don't get along half bad, but you don't just lie there and leave it all up to me, not in your wildest dreams. I hate danger plenty, but layabouts leave another bad taste in my mouth. Though, when your back's against the wall... *cough* Well, we can talk about it then! |
Idle | Someone's easygoing, aren't you? Well, I can let you rest for ten minutes or so. |
Onboard | Ahh, this is Rhodes Island, is it? I'm Zofia the Whislash, then. As a former competition knight of Kazimierz, trust me when I say I'll whip your operators into shape. |
Watching Battle Record | These are ways of fighting I've never even heard of before! |
Promotion 1 | So this is a Rhodes Island promotion, then...? Why not. I don't pay much attention to my wages, but being compensated for my troubles isn't all that bad a feeling. Thank you. |
Promotion 2 | Hmm, thinking about it carefully, the pay's not bad, life is good enough here, and I get to see Maria and Margaret all the time. Staying here as an instructor sounds nice. |
Added to Squad | Let's take a look at how you all deploy. |
Appointed as Squad Leader | Leave the team to me, then. |
Depart | Turn up the heat! We're going out! |
Begin Operation | You haven't forgotten what you need to do, right? |
Selecting Operator 1 | My time to shine. |
Selecting Operator 2 | Well-timed, Doctor. |
Deployment 1 | Assess the battle first. |
Deployment 2 | Zofia the Whislash, attacking! |
In Battle 1 | Don't underestimate me! |
In Battle 2 | Perfect chance! |
In Battle 3 | Pushover! |
In Battle 4 | You're finished! |
4-star Result | Really, I was going to have a word with you about taking such a dangerous mission, but seeing you tie things up so beautifully, I'll just let it slide... |
3-star Result | A perfectionist, then... well, nothing wrong with that. |
Sub 3-star Result | We won, and that's enough, no? Don't obsess over it. |
Operation Failure | Doctor, don't just stand there! Follow me! |
Assigned to Facility | Well, this interior's got taste! |
Tap | Eek?! |
Trust Tap | Doctor, focus on your work. |
Title | Arknights. |
Greeting | How do you do, Doctor? |
