RIIC Base Skills
Quick Evaluation
+ Talents: Gains Physical Evade and HP regeneration at low HP once per battle. Enemies dealt lethal damage by Saga gain Crippled status and can be killed by allies to gain SP.
+ Great when buffed as she has strong damage multiplier with her spammable skills.
+ S2: The bread and butter skill for Saga, it deals high damage in a cross shaped area around her and grants some DP. It can hold up to 3 charges and executes enemies that are crippled giving her some SP back when it kills them. Great when facing large waves of enemies to really spam it.
+ S3: A good balanced skill that can finish off enemies quickly once they go below 50% HP. She won't deal the most damage for a Vanguard or generate the most DP but she will be quite strong in both areas and have enough ATK to hurt tougher opponents.
= If you place Saga close to an exit then fast moving enemies like wolves can still exit in crippled form.
- S3: Poor skill uptime
Operator Overview
Saga is a cheerful, simple-minded monk who has spent most of her life living in a remote monastery. By a bizarre accident of fate, when this happy-go-lucky monk finally left her home, she got lost in a magical painting created by Dusk for ten years. When she finally found her way out, she met Operators Lava and Kroos and ended up signing on with Rhodes Island because of them. Now she wields her naginata and her relentlessly optimistic nature as a 6* Skill-DP-Recovery Vanguard who generates DP for the Doctor and transforms enemies into SP batteries for her allies.
Although Saga is not a new archetype, her mechanics are so odd that she might as well be. Saga’s Talent, Preaching, has a very strange effect: it prevents Saga from killing enemies. When she would kill an enemy, she instead reduces it to 1 HP and inflicts the Critically Wounded ailment. This reduces the victim’s movement speed, prevents it from being blocked, and kills the target several seconds later. What’s the point, you might ask? Well, if an ally kills the Wounded target before the ailment does, then that ally gains SP! Saga doesn’t kill enemies by herself; she uses them as SP delivery packages for her allies instead.
That being said, if you do need Saga to kill an enemy herself, look no further than her S2, Cleansing Evil. This Skill strikes in a cross shape, dealing physical damage to multiple enemies within range and executing any that are Wounded. And it immediately generates DP to boot! If you don’t mind sacrificing some DP generation and Saga’s ability to execute her own Wounded targets, though, then the Fierce Glare Skill might be even better. This Skill increases Saga’s ATK and attack range, allows her to attack enemies equal to her Block count (so 2 at base), and gives her an extra attack when hitting an enemy below half health. Fierce Glare is perfect for Wounding multiple enemies in a short time and sending them off to your allies to fuel their Skills.
Being an SP battery gives Saga a rare and potent niche among Vanguards. But be careful when using her: Saga’s S2 and S3 are a bit slow to generate DP, and Preaching can backfire on you (do not, for example, place Saga directly in front of your base with no space behind her, or the Crippled enemies may escape before you can kill them). It can also be very annoying if the wrong ally starts executing Wounded units and stealing the SP from the Operator you’re trying to fuel.
Considering she’s such a simple-minded person, it’s a surprise that Saga’s kit is so complex (just like her many flowery speeches!) If you’re able to tailor your strategies and positioning around her tunnel vision, however, then Saga hits the battlefield as a ferocious fighter, a helpful DP generator, and a skillful team enabler all in one sleek, vicious, terrifyingly cheerful package.
Newbie Tier List Explanation
Very effective, but can trip up new players because of the way she doesn't technically "kill" enemies. Make sure you understand the [Critically Wounded] mechanic before you use her. S2 can be spammy since it is manually activated, but this is a also the advantage it has over Siege. One of the better long-term investments in this archetype.
Skill Discussion
S2M1 | Breakpoint | S3M3 | A- | A+ | B+ |
S2M3 | B | B+ | A+ |
Saga has two viable skills, though I favor her S3 in most scenarios. Her S3 first activation can have DP generation similar to a Flagbearer Vanguard, and it greatly increases her combat prowess, which is the main reason to be running a 6★ Pioneer Vanguard.
Her S2 can still be quite valuable at times since it hits in a true AoE on a fairly large range with a big attack multiplier, though for the most part it will be fine at M1 with further investment being a niche luxury. She is a weak pick in the Roguelike, but if you do intend to use her, the consistency of her S2 will likely be more valuable given the relatively long cooldown on her S3.
Integrated Strategies Tier List Explanation
General IS Notes
+ Powerful damage for a Vanguard.
+ Strongest raw DPS among the Pioneer Vanguards.
+ Good utility.
- Utility is far harder to setup and less impactful.
- Not as impactful for the Hope cost as most other 6*s.
- Not Myrtle.
IS2 Specific Notes
Saga, like all Pioneers, is a competent pick, but one rarely worth the Hope cost. There are ultimately better options for the same costs and no relic truly elevates her to the next level.
Good Relics
Blunt Claws - Proficiency
Blunt Claws - Mastery

Relic Interactions
Limited benefits from most relics, though anything that improves her combat prowess is welcome.
S2 can capitalize on Anger of the Siracusans quite well.
Recommended Promotion
E2 recommended for access to her S3, though she is functional at E1.

Profile
A wandering monk from Higashi. Some holes in her background. Originally entered a Rhodes Island office by mistake; once inquiries showed she was interested in employment, she passed the exams and joined the company. Seems to have previously made links with Rhodes Island Operator Lava.
Makes ample use of the naginata she carries with vigorous skill, and is active as a Vanguard Operator on the frontlines.

A lively Higashi errant monk. She claims that she never shaved her head as she is not in any way a formal monk.
Her character is also unlike the image of an eastern monk, she's supremely outgoing. Unable to resist joining a crowd to see the hubbub, it hasn't taken too long for her to give regards to most Operators.
Moreover, as someone previously cut off from modern-day life, she has an intense capacity for learning and taking up new and novel things. Though she might make a few jokes when obtaining something fresh, you'll see her making proficient use of it not long after, and she seems to endlessly enjoy learning how to use every sort of machine.

Since the cradle, Saga grew up in a monastery. For as long as she could remember, she would follow her master and the other apprentices in practicing martial arts and chanting the sutras.
When she had grown and left, the monastery was situated on a nameless mountain in the north of Higashi, but that was not its original place; the monastery relocated there to avoid a Catastrophe when she was seven. It was fortunate a Catastrophe Messenger alerted them in time, and they didn't bear the Catastrophe's direct brunt.
Additionally, she recounts that even as many mountain monasteries resisted incorporating into cities, most mastered their own rapid dismantlement and reestablishment in contrast.
Beyond that one relocation, she'd never once descended the mountain before, having always lived a frugal life in the monastery. It's thus that life below the mountain was entirely unknown and unfamiliar to her.
Saga says that at the start, her old head priest was opposed to her descending, for a very simple reason: Saga was too pure, and were she to enter worldly society, he feared there would be much problem.
However, Saga further says that late the night of his refusal, he roused her awake, and the two of them went to the monastery's square. Master and disciple—forefather and descendant—they took a staff to each one, an answer to each question, from the moon true overhead until first light in the east, when ultimately, the head priest allowed her to descend.
Saga states she still doesn't understand to this day why the head priest would fight her and then let her go, but Saga has close to forgotten about what they asked and answered on that night, to the point we are unable to unearth the full picture. But perhaps it was within Saga's answers that the head priest confirmed something, and so could allow her to embark on her practice with full confidence.

While she's plenty eager to come to grips with modern machinery and trendy culture, Saga still gives people a sense of era mismatch most of the time.
This isn't to say there's any problem with her. Just the opposite: compared to her, many people might notice problems with themselves.
When unscheduled for missions, she's guaranteed to get up at 6 o'clock, do an hour of morning exercise, an hour of meditation, and then get down to work for the day. After work's over, if all is as usual, she'll go to sleep at 9 on the dot.
She has great interest in machinery, and will watch screened programs or play games with some other operators; she enjoys herself tremendously, but is also able to set it all aside without any hesitation.
She'll also question injustices that many nowadays would even call natural or given, and these will distress her.
This isn't Saga's first year off the mountain by a long shot. She's already lived out here for a long while, but still continues on this way; this is the very way she lives.
Saga is very lively, kindhearted, and endearing, but at times stands out greatly, and other times her voice can feel piercing.
To put it bluntly, Saga's presence makes people afraid at times.
Of course, this fear is nothing of a bad sort.

Concerning how Saga and Lava came to know each other, both seem to intentionally avoid this topic. All we know is that in her time in Yan, Saga coincided with Lava and Rhodes Island by chance. That said, after joining Rhodes Island, Saga's first act was to immediately find Lava and Kroos in the middle of training. They all regarded their chance reunion with pleasant surprise. However, Saga only learned afterwards that the course she took while 'lost' happened to fall right behind Lava's team—in other words, at almost the exact same time, both parties made it to the office, and arrived at the Rhodes Island landship, which struck a particularly ironic note.
Saga knows of many things. So many that her age seems at odds with her experiences. People have asked Saga out of curiosity where she'd traveled before, and Saga always recounts it piece by piece without reservation. Occasionally, you might hear some profound philosophy fall from the young monk's mouth, though she doesn't make any note of it in the least. The problem is, Saga's age suggests her leaving Higashi to wander the map couldn't have been any more than ten years ago. Just where had she seen so many people and walked so many roads?
Saga says, it was in pictures.
'I do not tell lies. Good sir, thou faceth me now, and I respect thee just as I ought. I am unable to speak in more definite terms, so I ask: fault me not for talking in riddles!' —Saga
'Quit bothering Saga. You can go ask our friendly little stay-at-home Dusk all about it. If you dare, anyway.' —Lava

Saga's bewilderment is starkly plain, so much that it makes people wonder how this world of ours could still hold people so untarnished. With all the doubts surrounding her, we soon had answers.
The mature may say: you should learn to reconcile, understand you can't settle it all yourself, then strive to do all you can.
The sly may say: you should follow the flow, that resistance makes pains, and it's more worth it just to dive in.
The wrathful may say: you should go forth with head held high, eternally unsurrendering, and fight to your life's last end.
The timid may say: you should seclude back in the mountains and forests, return to your own monastery, and forget all such tumult.
The right answer? There is no right answer. What there are are only choices.
We look forward to the choices Saga makes.

I shall come! Doctor, so long as I am here, thou mayst be at ease in thy work!
Talk 1
I grew from childhood in the monastery. Though I could recite the texts from heart, I never fully understood their inner meanings, and my old head priest and the other great masters gave explanations from which I could comprehend even less. Doctor, thou art of learned stature. Mayst thou be able to teach me?
Talk 2
Rhodes Island truly lacks none for novel machinery... hm? Doctor, underestimate me not. I may begin clueless, but I am no contrarian to the times. If I do not know how, then I need only learn. My personal music player even holds some songs of the good Miss Sora within it.
Talk 3
So as to evade Catastrophe, I once accompanied my old head priest and fellow monastery apprentices over mountain and valley. My head priest spoke that Catastrophes were the wrath of the gods. Yet, I have never witnessed one by my own eyes. I am somewhat curious.
Talk after Promotion 1
I am not a true monk, merely raised by the monastery. At my departure, Saga was the name my old head priest gave to me. Its meaning is of high mountains and rugged roads. And only when I left the monastery, did I come to know how the world was no straightforward thing.
Talk after Promotion 2
I swallow hardship, and fear not fatigue, yet there is still one thing I cannot assent to. My master spoke that all living beings are equal. The Infected are people all the same, people only fallen ill. Why can they not be permitted to live?
Talk after Trust Increase 1
Ho-ho. I may have only erred upon a Rhodes Island recruitment spot at first, but whether the food or the beds, it is all of great quality, and the pay pales not. I truly have stumbled upon a wonderful place.

When I left the monastery, I had thought that entering society would involve no more than dealing with pests, ridding some despots. I had never dreamt it would be so treacherous as this. There are times I do not even know what I draw my blade for. Doctor... I do not understand.
Talk after Trust Increase 3
I still puzzle over much in my heart, but I have understood at least that some answers I must seek myself, and some thoughts I must think through myself. Doctor, until I have sorted it all out, I wish to continue my training by thine side. Pray, allow me this!
Idle
Doctor... ho, thou art quite skillful to fall asleep sitting. In that case, I shall meditate for a while.

Archive File 4
Increase Trust to 200.Saga knows of many things.

Upgrade to Elite LV2.The mature may say: you should learn to reconcile, understand you can't settle it all yourself, then strive to do all you can.

Appointed as Assistant | I shall come! Doctor, so long as I am here, thou mayst be at ease in thy work! |
---|---|
Talk 1 | I grew from childhood in the monastery. Though I could recite the texts from heart, I never fully understood their inner meanings, and my old head priest and the other great masters gave explanations from which I could comprehend even less. Doctor, thou art of learned stature. Mayst thou be able to teach me? |
Talk 2 | Rhodes Island truly lacks none for novel machinery... hm? Doctor, underestimate me not. I may begin clueless, but I am no contrarian to the times. If I do not know how, then I need only learn. My personal music player even holds some songs of the good Miss Sora within it. |
Talk 3 | So as to evade Catastrophe, I once accompanied my old head priest and fellow monastery apprentices over mountain and valley. My head priest spoke that Catastrophes were the wrath of the gods. Yet, I have never witnessed one by my own eyes. I am somewhat curious. |
Talk after Promotion 1 | I am not a true monk, merely raised by the monastery. At my departure, Saga was the name my old head priest gave to me. Its meaning is of high mountains and rugged roads. And only when I left the monastery, did I come to know how the world was no straightforward thing. |
Talk after Promotion 2 | I swallow hardship, and fear not fatigue, yet there is still one thing I cannot assent to. My master spoke that all living beings are equal. The Infected are people all the same, people only fallen ill. Why can they not be permitted to live? |
Talk after Trust Increase 1 | Ho-ho. I may have only erred upon a Rhodes Island recruitment spot at first, but whether the food or the beds, it is all of great quality, and the pay pales not. I truly have stumbled upon a wonderful place. |
Talk after Trust Increase 2 | When I left the monastery, I had thought that entering society would involve no more than dealing with pests, ridding some despots. I had never dreamt it would be so treacherous as this. There are times I do not even know what I draw my blade for. Doctor... I do not understand. |
Talk after Trust Increase 3 | I still puzzle over much in my heart, but I have understood at least that some answers I must seek myself, and some thoughts I must think through myself. Doctor, until I have sorted it all out, I wish to continue my training by thine side. Pray, allow me this! |
Idle | Doctor... ho, thou art quite skillful to fall asleep sitting. In that case, I shall meditate for a while. |
Onboard | Thou art the Doctor? Hail and well... ah, ought not I be more serious at times like these? Ahem—my name is Saga. I am a wandering monk. Should there be any place thou mayst need me, refrain not in sending me! |
Watching Battle Record | Ho-ho. To think such strategy does exist in the world. My horizons have broadened. |
Promotion 1 | A raise? Splendid! I have been watering at the mouth to try the deluxe set at the cafeteria for quite some time, yet have been embarrassingly out of pocket... today, I am finally able to feast! |
Promotion 2 | Dear head priest. In my heart yet is wild disarray. The ways of this world I still cannot see through, nor cut down. Though I am fortunate to have met with great people, and with their guidance, there will come a day in our turbulent mortal world where I cut through to the heavens! |
Added to Squad | I shall come! |
Appointed as Squad Leader | Am I the captain? Not a problem! |
Depart | I shall go! |
Begin Operation | My blade cuts only evil! |
Selecting Operator 1 | Takuan-zuke... hah! I am right here! |
Selecting Operator 2 | Leave this to me! |
Deployment 1 | I am here! |
Deployment 2 | Who dares be rash! |
In Battle 1 | Sever all desires! |
In Battle 2 | Cleanse the six senses! |
In Battle 3 | Natto gohan! |
In Battle 4 | Aburaage! |
4-star Result | 'Twas truly an arduous trial. I have gained greatly for it. |
3-star Result | As expected of the Doctor! Alone, I would surely have let quite a few through. |
Sub 3-star Result | My head priest spoke that one must have a merciful heart, and I believe that this suffices, more or less. |
Operation Failure | Doctor, go quickly! Leave the rear to me! |
Assigned to Facility | What is this scent?! |
Tap | What-ho?! |
Trust Tap | Call, and I shall surely come running. |
Title | Arknights. |
Greeting | Doctor, hast thou eaten? An unfilled stomach will surely leave thee powerless at work. |
